Benedict Cumberbatch to the rescue: How Sherlock saved the 2014 Oscars for Laura Dern

21 Jul

“The greatest experience you can have with your father is to have him at an awards (ceremony). Everybody’s in their outfits, everybody’s nervous … And he’s sitting there going, ‘Kid! Can you believe it? I’m 77 years old, I’m doing what I love and they invited me to their dinner party’. I said, ‘Isn’t that great dad?’ He said, ‘Now go get me a Coke!’

“I’m like, ‘It’s the middle of the Academy Awards! You can’t leave!’ He goes, ‘You can do it, just leave and go get a Coke’. ‘I’m not leaving dad.’

“Benedict Cumberbatch happened to be sitting next to me — I don’t know him at all — and he was like (adopts super-polite English accent), ‘Oh does your father need a Coke? I’ll get him a Coke …’

“So Benedict Cumberbatch went and got him a Coca-Cola, which I thought was so adorable. That Sherlock!”

One of the many reasons we love this man so much. He is such a giving and caring soul.

And so it begins… #SDCC is about to start so it’s time for the annual warning announcement that this blog is going to go a bit nuts for about a week.
It’s the best time of the year for me; and as usual I’ve got a stuffed schedule and I’m not even there.

Anyhow, the tags to blacklist are #SDCC #SDCC2016 #NerdHQ plus the tags for all the shows that will be there this year (which are increasing every damn year) and the obligatory #ZacharyLevi #ZacLevi tags cause the scruff’s back and he’ll be have all the time to be his perfect self during the entire weekend.

Although, for the very first time I will NOT be online for the Supernatural/Sherlock panel… first time in FIVE years that I’m not home for that O_O (here’s hope somebody takes the time of the annual Gag-Reel-Being-Online; I think last year was pretty epic already so I’m wondering how fast it’ll be this year!)

Anyhow, I’ve got the feeling it’s going to be pretty fucking epic!

So, good luck everyone, blacklist if you need to.
If not, welcome to the madness and ENJOY THE RIDE!!!

I will live for your posts!!!

US air strike in Syria kills nearly 60 civilians ‘mistaken for Isil fighters’

20 Jul

My country murdered 60 civilians.

And my government has the fucking nerve to say “they hate us because of our freedom and values.”

From ‘Tank Girl’ to ‘Sherlock’: The less-than-elementary return of director Rachel Talalay

19 Jul

…Certainly, Moffat can’t complain about Talalay’s tight-lippedness over spoilers. “I can tell you one thing, which is not very helpful,” she says. “It’s a very strong episode in terms of introducing the themes of this entire series and it also harkens to Arthur Conan Doyle very strongly.”

The director is more loquacious on the subject of witnessing firsthand Cumberbatch’s effect on the public. “The time I was most amused, we were on Vauxhall Bridge, right across from MI6, and these tour buses are driving by,” she says. “I actually have dailies where you can hear them, these open tour buses. Because there’s Benedict in the middle of Vauxhall Bridge, dressed as Sherlock Holmes, and you can hear the first person notice him, and then the next, and the next, and suddenly there’s screaming as the bus drives off. This is the best thing ever, to watch that enthusiasm and excitement”…

She so gets us…

Hikaru Sulu is gay in ‘Star Trek Beyond’

8 Jul

During a promotional event in Australia, John Cho confirmed that beloved Star Trek character Hikaru Sulu is gay.

Sulu was originally played by George Takei, who in later life has become a prominent activist for LGBT rights. In a tribute to his ongoing legacy as an icon of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek Beyond writer Simon Pegg and director Justin Lin decided make Sulu canonically gay in the upcoming movie.

“I liked [Pegg and Lin’s] approach, which was not to make a big thing out of it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations,” Cho said.
